I love lolcats. I can’t get enough. And occasionally, I’ll find one hilarious enough to make me spew my drink all over the place.

I saw this the other day at icanhascheezburger.com

which reminded me of this old Lifesavers commercial:

For all you people looking for rhymes, it’s got an H in it. Yeah.

That should cut my traffic by about half.

Favorite 2.4 Shaman Change

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , at 10:46 am by rymes

I’ve been playing Uhtar, my Shaman, a bit more the last few days. Shaman strikes me as a more versatile class than the Warlock, and my Warlock is still sitting at 64. (I know, I should just make the push to 70, but I really hate playing him. It is not my style at all). I did a SM Lib run yesterday, that went really well (Priest, Warrior, Mage, and 2 Shaman. Totem FOREST), and managed to get 3 levels yesterday, with all my saved up rested Exp.

Anyway, I’m sitting here, waiting for the updater to finish so I can play today, and I’m looking over the Shaman updates. I am quite pleased at a few of them, namely:

  • Elemental Focus: This buff will no longer be removed when Shamanistic Focus is triggered. This would happen to me all the time. I’d be whacking away at something, it’d proc, then proc again and disappear.
  • Ghost Wolf: Cast time reduced to 2 seconds, down from 3. I wonder if, fully talented, this is now an instant spell? Edit: Fully talented, Ghost wolf is now an instant spell. I am very pleased.
  • The Global Cooldown of all Totems has been reduced to 1 seconds, down from 1.5 seconds.

But my absolute favorite change so far:

  • Totem timer icons will now show up under your player portrait when you cast totem spells. Right-clicking a totem timer icon will destroy that totem.

That’s right, no longer do we Shaman have to rely on our Totemic Call to squelch those aggro-drawing Fire Totems, we can turn them off individually. And, having never used a Totem Timer add-on before, I’ll probably find the UI addition pretty handy.

Well, I’m off to go play my Shaman.

Just a little news as to what I’ve been up to.

I tend to shy away from talking about my health problems, and I won’t bore you with alot of details, but they do take up alot of my time and energy. I have CVID, and have recently developed ITP, both of which require regular IV infusions. I had a few doctors appointments this week, and the ITP treatment seems to be going very well; I’m responding well to the treatment, and my platelet percentage is rising. I have 2 more infusions to go, one on the 7th and one on the 14th. My CVID treatments are every two weeks, and those are indefinite. BUT, I’m still feeling like things are getting better.

I’ve gotten kind of bored of Rymes. He’s been sitting in the Hinterlands for a while, at 59. I did log in today, though, and got him up to 60. Woohoo! I also respecced to Destruction, and I’m going to try to see if I can AoE Solo some lower level instances.

I’ve been doing a lot of WSG with Uhtar, and feeling like I’m finally getting good at it. I actually captured the flag today, and, along with another Enhancement Shaman, defended myself and our base while Offense hunted down our flag. Two Shaman = AWESOME. The totem combinations are just amazing, buffs everywhere. I had picked up the PVP Cloak and slapped a +70 armor enchant on it; now I’ve got 20 more marks, and I’m wondering what the next piece of gear would be best for me to get.

I did some research for about an hour today, and found some interesting things about Ghost Wolf:

  • Shamanistic Focus and Flurry will proc on crits while in Ghost Wolf form
  • Crusader will not proc in GW. At all.
  • You cannot get any weapon skill points while in GW. I tried for about half an hour to level 1-handed maces, and got nothing. Then I removed my weapon, to see if unarmed would level, and it did not. I shifted out of GW, and it started leveling.

Do Druids get weapon skill-ups in animal form? Why shouldn’t Shaman? I’m irked.

Honestly, this is where I spend alot of my WoW time: searching the AH for deals to resell and leveling up my trade skills. I’ve now maxed out my Fishing, Cooking, and Leatherworking, and am working on my skinning (only killing gray mobs, I swear) and the last few points of First Aid.

Speaking of which, Pox Arcanum has had a couple of members drop out due to unforseen circumstances. If you’d like to join us, drop a line here, or at our blog. Or, just show up on Anvilmar, Horde side, and join our chat channel (/join Poxic) and ask for an invite. You don’t have to be a blogger, but we certainly appreciate everybody contributing to the group blog. Also, schedules are usually flexible, so if you have other obligations, arrangements can be made.

I Got The Blues

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:14 pm by rymes

I’ve been spending a fair amount of time in WSG these last couple of days. I’ve not run a lot of BattleGrounds before, but I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. It’s actually gotten to the point where I feel I’m contributing at least as much as I’m hindering.

I managed to pick up Fiery Enchant for my Cobalt Crusher, and got some +Stam on my Barbaric Bracers, before my last WSG run. I actually feel like I did pretty well on this one.

Now I’m gonna go play some Professor Layton.

L2Hunter, Plz

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:46 pm by rymes

So I was playing on Uhtar today, finishing up some quests in Astranaar (or as Ratshag likes to say, “Aastraaanaaar”), when I see a tell in the general channel.

“LF 2 more for BFD”

“I’m in”, I whispered back.

And so we got a group going, and we did really well. We had 2 Shamans (including me), both Enhancement, rocking the house. We had an awesome Priest, who kept us all in good health. We had a good Warrior, who was having a little bit of a tough time keeping aggro off of us DPS Shaman, but that’s OK, we like it like that.

And we had a Hunter.

I don’t know if I’m just spoiled, or if BRK‘s training has just made me expect more from Hunters, but this guy was, in every sense of the word, and Huntard. Every thing he did set me on edge, from using a WC serpent as his pet (WTF?! WHY?!?), to melee-ing every encounter, to dropping Freezing Traps in the middle of combat. On my mob. And getting irritated when I broke the trap.

I checked out his Armory profile afterward. I regret it. This kid has no idea what he’s doing. (I won’t link directly to his profile. That’s harsh.)

If I ever suck it up so badly, please, someone slap me into shape. PLEASE.

Shut up and do your job

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:58 am by rymes

What do you do when you’re PUG-ing for a dungeon, you need 1 person to fill a role, and when you find one, they say, “Oh, don’t ask me to do X, I’m not specced for it”.

This happened to me and a friend a while ago, trying to run ZF. He was a Warrior, and I’m a Warlock, and we had another DPS, forget which class. We manage to get 2 other people: a Druid and a Pally, and neither of them will heal. Flat out, absolutely refuse. Kick, kick, never did find a full group, went and quested elsewhere.

I understand I may not know everything, or even much of anything, about healing, because up until my Pox Arcanum Shaman, Fuller, I’ve played DPS classes. But I’m of the opinion that if you are in a group and you are the only one (or maybe one of two) who can fill a role, you should do it. Maybe you’re not specced for it, maybe you don’t have the gear with you. It’s ok, we’re not asking you for a miracle, just do the job the best you can.

Before I forget…

Helpful Hints

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , at 10:20 am by rymes

This is my list of absolute *must have* addons for WoW.

  • Auctioneer – AH addon useful for flipping and finding deals.
  • Autoprofit – Automatically sells all those greys in your inventory next time you’re at a vendor.
  • Baudbag – Makes all your bags into one, and color codes those greens and up.
  • Cartographer – Absolute must, especially for those “where are you” moments. Also, you can load Cartographer Mining and Cartographer Herbalism to help you track down nodes.
  • LightHeaded – Helpful addon that allows you to look up quest info on the fly.
  • RatingBuster – Shows the difference in your stats should you equip the new item.

These are the addons I rely on the most. If anyone has any more to suggest, or maybe an upgrade of the ones I’m using, please let me know. I’m also looking for a good mail addon that will allow me to open all my mail, or at least all the ones with money attached, at a faster rate (good for checking my bank alts mail in the mornings).
